Stefan Mangold’s research covers many aspects of wireless communication networks. His foci are wireless protocols and system aspects for IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN, cognitive radio, and wide-area networks such as cellular and WiMAX. Other research interests include mobile computing, interactive toys, cellular networks, and ontology engineering. Stefan is co-author of the two books, IEEE 802 Wireless Systems: Protocols, Multi-Hop Mesh/Relaying, Performance and Spectrum Coexistence and Cognitive Radio and Dynamic Spectrum Access. He holds various patents and publications. He is contributor to the standardization body of IEEE 802.11. In addition, Stefan also enjoys working as lecturer at ETH Zürich, Department of Computer Science, where he has been teaching mobile computing and wireless communications since 2007. As independent expert, he regularly consults the European Commission in Brussels with regard to the overall research program funding. Before joining Disney Research, Zürich in October 2009, Stefan worked at Swisscom (2005-2009) in various management positions in research and business development, and with Philips Research U.S.A. (2003-2005) as Senior Member Research Staff. Stefan received his degrees in electrical engineering / telecommunications from ComNets RWTH Aachen University, Germany.
