Lab Associate (Intern) – Research – Disney Research Los Angeles

Disney Research Los Angeles is a laboratory doing research for The Walt Disney Company. Our 80 researchers are developing new technologies in the areas of computer vision, robotics, camera & capture technology, AR/VR, AI/ML, and materials.

You would work as a member of the animation and platforms groups, working together with other lab research groups as well as with a design team.

This internship will focus on research and development in “interactive digital storytelling.” This broad research area encompasses aspects of character animation, artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and game development.

This is a full-time position, starting date – June 15, 2017, or by agreement.

Number of positions: 2

Possible projects include but are not limited to:

  • Developing story-aware autonomous virtual characters for interactive narratives
  • Story guided AI assistants
  • Knowledge representation and reasoning of images, videos, and natural language for multi-modal story synthesis
  • Developing novel story-driven game experiences

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • 3D Game Engine Development (e.g., Unity Game Engine)
  • Programming Proficiency (C++/C#/Java)
  • Character Animation
  • Artificial Intelligence

Recommended Skills:

  • Natural Language Processing
  • Machine Learning

Deliverables of this internship include a prototype system and a technical publication which will be submitted to a top-tier graphics or AI conference.

You should be a very flexible, highly responsible and reliable person, with a high degree of self-organization and strong software engineering and analytical skills. Work language is English.
