Post-Doctoral Associate Robotics – Sensing and Manipulation – Disney Research Los Angeles

Disney Research is expanding its activities in manipulation, physical human-robot interactions, and other forms of interactive robots. We invite applicants for a post-doctoral research position, with terms up to 2 years.

The ideal candidate will have recently completed a Ph.D. thesis in a related field and demonstrated peer-reviewed publications. Areas of interest include (though not limited to):

  • Sensing for Manipulation
  • 3D Sensors, point clouds, sensor fusion
  • Sensing and Manipulation in Cluttered or Crowded Environments
  • Gesture Recognition
  • Intent Recognition
  • Machine Learning

Excellent written and spoken English communication skills are essential, as well as programming skills in C, Matlab, or an appropriate language. Activities will develop basic concepts and involve implementation on real, large D.O.F. hardware systems.

The Disney Research Labs provide a research foundation for the many business units within The Walt Disney Company. These include Walt Disney Imagineering, Parks & Resorts, Walt Disney Feature Animation, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Disney Interactive Media Group, ESPN, and Pixar Animation Studios. Disney Research has sibling labs located in Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, and Zurich.

Full participation in the global research community is required through publication of results, collaboration with universities, and participation in professional service activities. Candidates should have a strong record of achievement in applied research, excellent academic credentials, and an earned Ph.D. in their area of specialization.
