David Christensen is excited to be moving from Apple to Disney Research. He completed his Ph.D. in robotic actuators, haptics and sensors at Stanford where his thesis was on microrobots enabled with macro-forces was advised by Mark Cutkosky and Tom Kenny. These 1-inch “uTug” microrobots can freely run but still generate enough surface grip for 6 them to move a car. This is all enabled by the magic of Gecko Adhesives that grip without being sticky. Prior to graduate school, he served as Director of Research and Development at Valimet Inc. a manufacturer of micron-sized spherical metal powders used in applications including aerospace and metallic 3d printing.
